Vicente: Athletes gaining weight

HARD training requires loads of nutrition.

If you have witnessed an athlete eat, you may be amazed at the amount of food they can consume even if they look fit.

Common to many active and hard training athletes is their appetite that may seem abnormal for a person with their physique, but the phenomenon that baffles those who do not understand is why most athletes or retired athletes grow big and sometimes unusually obese.

The explanation is simple, for an active athlete who trains hard, intake of food is evident because of their need for nutrition and their craving to be replenished which compensates the latter, so intake of food is no problem for an active player because he just sheds it in training, thus, hard training requires food to replenish what they shed.

For retired athletes who train less, the appetite that was built when they were active does not change, just the lessened activity as food intake remains the same but the process of shedding it gets altered due to inactivity.

This also explains why those who attempt to lose weight by getting into weights training or any training regimen but does it for just a period of time and stops gains weight rather than losing it. We must understand that when we resort to physical activity, we also ignite an appetite that compensates the activity.

Resorting to such activity must go hand in hand in controlling food craving, especially if we do not intend to maintain the activity as a part of our life routine.

This is rampant among former athletes like body builders, boxers, etc. and those who goes to the gym then stops. Weight is surely gained because physical training stops but appetite and cravings remain.

This is the very reason that losing weight is a science of not just physical but also mental. Proper results could be attained and side effects could be prevented. We always go back to the balance of body, mind and spirit - the ultimate guide.
