Tour guides training course set

THE Province of Negros Occidental, through the Negros Occidental Tourism Division in partnership with the Tourism Educators and Movers Philippines-Western Visayas and the Department of Tourism, will conduct a Tour Guiding Training Course every weekend starting March 2.

The training is open to all interested personnel of local government units, national government agencies, travel agencies, hotels, resorts, teachers, professionals including retired tourism practitioners and educators interested to become Department of Tourism accredited tour guides.

This 23-day course will be held every Saturday and Sunday, from March 2 to June 2.

The topics include an overview of tour guiding course and tourism industry, personality development and communication skills, becoming a tour guide, destinations and activities in the Philippines, environment concerns and protection, Filipino culture, developing tour guides knowledge, skills and attitude, the Philippines: knowing our very own country, airline ticketing interpretation, tour guides as crisis managers, basic first aid, ticketing interpretation, tour guides as crisis managers, basic first aid, tour guide commentaries, dot accreditation, protocol and social graces, and other important things a tour guide must know.

Familiarization tours, fieldwork, and researches are also part of the module. There will be written and oral exams for the duration of the course and assessment.

Course package is P9,500 per person. The package includes learning materials, field visits and meals for the 23-day course. Interested individuals shall undergo a pre-screening process on February 26 at the Provincial Tourism Office, Provincial Capitol Building, Bacolod City.
