A RESIDENT of Victorias City, Negros Occidental was rescued from her employer recently after she was allegedly maltreated.

Roselyn Tamayo Samante, who was allegedly maltreated by her foreigner-employer in Makati City, came home yesterday.

Her second cousin, Mary Liza Flores Gardose, was also maltreated, but she was charged before the Makati local court for allegedly stealing from her employer P500,000.

Gardose, also from Victorias, is still in jail and waiting to post bail.

But according to Samante, her second cousin and herself did not do wrong against their employer.

Samante claimed they were forced to work until they get exhausted and were not allowed to eat until they finish their work.

Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca said the City Legal Office will help them in their case.

"We will still help her second cousin find justice. She just admitted the offense because she does not want to prolong the conflict," he said.

Collaborative efforts of the office of Palanca, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, members of the Philippine National Police and several others facilitate the rescue of Samante.

The victim's parents and some of her relatives sought the help of the city government on the matter.

Moreover, Samante sustained bleach burns in her hands caused by exhaustive laundry and other household work.

Her mother was surprised to see her on Thursday, January 17, as nobody informed her that her daughter will return home.

Palanca said he cannot tolerate maltreatment to any of his constituents.

The City Government will also sponsor her education as she wants to go back to school as a Grade 10 student, Palanca said.

She was hired on May 14, 2018. But when she learned about the character of her employer, she wanted to go home but they didn’t approve it.
