Blood Olympics in 8 schools

THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Iloilo Chapter has been conducting the 2nd Dinagyang Blood Olympics in partnership with the City Government and Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc.

The activity, which started on January 14 and will end on January 23, is participated by eight schools.

“December and January are the most crucial part wherein blood donations are lesser than usual because of the activities and festivities that we have. To fill in, we are encouraging our youth to donate blood so that in times of emergency, we cater the needy,” said Joji Esper Marmolejo, PRC chapter service representative.

The participating schools are:

* St. Therese MTC Colleges-Tigbauan Site - January 15

* University of San Agustin, Central Philippine University and John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University–Arevalo - January 16

* John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University–Molo and University of Iloilo–PHINMA - January 17

* St. Therese MTC Colleges–Magdalo Site - January 18

* Iloilo Science and Technology University - January 21

* St. Therese MTC Colleges–La Fiesta Site and West Visayas State University - January 22

“This year, on our second year of the Dinagyang Blood Olympics, we are targeting to collect 100 bags per school. Last year, we only collected almost 300 bags,” Marmolejo said.

The activity will also have its opening program and Blood Advocacy Booth Making contest at SM City on January 19.

Blood in Pictures: Digital Poster Making Contest and Blood Shorts: Short Film Making Contest will be held at Cinematheque Iloilo on January 22.

The school-based blood drive among universities and colleges will have its Grand Blood Drive and Search for Iloilo Ambassador and Ambassadress 2019 at SM City on January 23. (PR)
