7-11 run draws 8,000 runners

THE 7-Eleven Run Series 2019 drew a good response from Cebu’s running community as the event has exceeded the target number of participants with two weeks left before race day.

“So far, we are now over our target number of 8,000 runners for the Cebu leg,” local race director Joel Juarez said on Saturday, Jan. 19.

The running event will happen simultaneously on Feb. 3 in Manila, Cebu and Davao with the country’s elite runners gunning for podium finishes for a chance to join a long distance race in Asia for free.

The top three overall in the 42-kilometer, 32K and 21K categories will be sent by the organizers to a race in Asia. The winners last year competed in the 23rd Jeju International Tourism Marathon Festival in South Korea.

The run will also dangle a whopping P1 million bonus for the runner who can break the national record in marathon.

The standing record for the men’s division is 2 hours and 18 minutes by Olympian Eduardo Buenavista, while the women’s benchmark is 2:38 by Christabel Martes.

The other distances are 16K, 10K, 5K, 3K and 500-meter kids. The 10K and 5K have the individual and buddy divisions.

The top male and female runners in the 42K will each go home with a P25,000 cash prize. (RSC)
