THREE local bands in Cagayan de Oro City are set to converge at a concert on January 25 at the North Point City Church, along Capistrano Street, Cagayan de Oro City.

Titled “Crossover,” the praise concert features the original songs of the bands Dhassig, Agalon, and Livewire.

According to Edgar Cacho, the composer and vocalist of Dhassig Band, the activity aims to spread positive message to its audience, particularly the youth, as well as promote the local music and bands of Cagayan de Oro.

“‘Crossover’ is murag siya story sa unang panahon sa bible, sa time ni Moses nga gikan sila sa Egypt, nitabok sila, gisugo sila sa Ginoo nga moadto sa promised land (Crossover is like the story in the bible at the time of Moses where they were travelling from Egypt, and then they crossed and told by Jesus to go to the promised land),” Cacho said.

Apart from music, the event will also consist of testimonies or sharing of experiences among the members of the bands.

“So gitawag na sya nga Crossover kay murag na sya kinabuhi nato (It was called Crossover because it is like our life). Gikan ta sa ing aning mga struggles (we came from these kinds of struggles), depression nga nahitabo sa atong kinabuhi (depression that happened in our lives), and then hangtod sa naka crossover ta sa usa ka butang nga nakita nato (until we were able to crossover a thing that we saw), nga naa gihapoy (with) hope nga makita nato (that we can see). Mao to sya ang Crossover (that is Crossover),” Cacho said.

Samuel Caballero, a member of the Livewire band of Mindanao River of Life Christian Church, on his part, said that the band ventured in collaborating with other bands as they find the cause of the concert good.

“Mas tsada man gyud sya nga we crossover sa atong boundaries sa church and then makig uban sa uban (It would be a lot better if we crossover the boundaries of our church and the meet other people). One body ra biya, one body in worshiping the Lord so mas tsada nga ang genre sa imong church ug sa uban sad nga church go together and form a concert nga ideal sa tanan (We are one body, one body in worshiping the Lord so it would be nicer that the genre of our church and other churches go together and form a concert that is ideal to all),” Caballero said.

“[It’s more] sa youth kay mas dali sila mo-appreciate [og worship songs] kaysa sa mga mama ug mga papa murag more on mellow-mellow mana ilaha (It’s more on the youth because they easily appreciate worship songs compared to the mothers and fathers who appreciates mellow songs). Pero naa sad gihapon uban nga mo go with the flow sa ilang mama ug papa (While other go with the flow with their parents),” he added.

Whereas the Dhassig Band drabbles in reggae and ethno genres, Livewire focuses on worship songs as some of them are members of the church.

Caballero also encouraged those who are interested to pursue music, be it through song writing or singing, to unleash their talent.

The Crossover concert, which is part of the National Bible Month celebration, will start at 6 p.m. The ticket costs P50, wherein, according to Cacho, a part of the proceeds will be kept as funds for future concert events while the rest will be divided among the participating bands and will be used for promotion.
