DAVAO City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) president Arturo Milan said there is an export opportunity for Philippine avocados in Singapore.

Milan said with their last investment promotion in Singapore in 2018, they have talked to Singaporean fruit and vegetable importers and found a good market for avocados in Singapore.

With Singapore currently importing avocados from Australia, Milan said this is already a good sign for the Philippines to come and participate in the Singaporean market.

“They were telling Davao has a lot of avocado, so they are trying to explore importing from Davao,” Milan said.

Milan also said the Singaporean importers suggested for the Philippines to improve its shipping routes to Singapore in order to make the importation of avocado much easier.

“This is because there are commodities too that are well delivered through shipping and not by air. Transporting goods by air is also costly,” Milan added.

Meanwhile, Milan said DCCII is currently discussing business potentials with the office of the Chief of Mission in Singapore to pursue other future investments opportunities between Davao and Singapore.

Milan added the local government unit of Davao City through the city’s Investment and Promotion Center also said the new export market for avocados can encourage the avocado growers and farmers to increase their productivity.
