Masbad: Quick hits 30

LET'S get this going!

Speed alerts on Google Maps

There's another reason why you and I will want to use Google Maps even more. Speed alerts. According to a report from Mashable, Google Maps will be rolling out speed limit and speed trap indicators within the app interface.

With the speed limit feature, drivers using Google Maps will be shown the post speed limit of the road they’re driving on in the lower left side of the app. Speed traps are designated with a small camera icon and shown on the visible area of the map.

In addition to visual alerts, the app will also give audio warnings when you’re almost at a speed trap. Of course, this will definitely not alert you for mobile traffic enforcers carrying speed guns. At least this new feature will inform you what the speed limit is for the road you’re on. Hopefully, you’re more of a law-abiding citizen than a violator. As of this writing, the speed limit feature is available through the US, UK and Denmark. It’s more than likely that this will roll out internationally soon.

Apple’s new battery case

If you absolutely must have this because, to you, there’s no other alternative and because it has the Apple logo, then you don’t need to read any further. But if you ask me, stay away from it. There are tons of alternatives out there. In fact, some may even be better. By the way, this is a battery case for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.

My suggestion, as a solution, is to get a powerbank that’s capable of both charging wired and wireless. Take note though that you need to get a Qi wireless charger to make the wireless charging work. Why not a battery case? One, battery capacity is limited. Two, it adds bulk to your beautifully slim iPhone.
