ANGELES CITY -- “Our vision now is to make Angeles not only a benchmark of good local governance, but the birthplace of future national and international athletes through establishment of sports facilities and skills development.”

This was the the statement of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan as he led the city government’s formal groundbreaking and time capsule-laying of the soon-to-rise sports complex, Friday, January 18 in Barangay Pampang.

The P 360-million Angeles City Sports Complex (ACSC) will rise at the 37,218 square meters parcel of land donated by Tito Lazatin, a real estate proprietor of Timog Park Subdivision, and a known philanthropist in the city.

The ACSC will house a convention center that has a total floor area of 6,965 square meter and a sitting capacity of 2,500 guests; a standard size multi-purpose court inside the arena; and a parking lot that can accommodate almost a hundred vehicles and buses.

In his welcoming remarks, Vice-Mayor Bryan Nepomuceno highlighted that once realized and constructed, the city can play host to regional and national sports competitions, and a venue for various socio-civic and cultural events.

Aside from sports development, the ACSC is also seen as venue to hold programs and events intended for senior citizens, children, and various sectors.

Pamintuan lauded Tito Lazatin and his clan for contributing to the realization of the project which is part of his expanded contract with the Angeleños, a social contract he signed in 2010 which comprises his development agenda for the city.

Following the contract as a development blueprint, the five-term city mayor also reported that almost all aspect of local governance have already been improved since he assumed office in 2010.

The mayor also said, “It is about time that we give sports its rightful place in our priority list”, while focusing on the city’s programs on health, education, tourism and urban renewal, culture and the arts, peace and order, traffic management, business and investment, and many more.

“New sports facilities are on the rise in Clark, but the people of Angeles need their own," the mayor emphasized.

"We have to build the future now. We need to invest on our people, on our younger generations for they shall inherit the fruits of our labor,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, the City Engineer’s Office projected the construction and completion of the sports complex to 360 calendar days.

Present during the groundbreaking and time-capsule laying are Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) city director Martin Pores Moral, incumbent City Councilors Edgardo Pamintuan Jr., Alex Indiongco, Dan Lacson, Joseph Ponce, CLAC president Thelma Indiongco, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Arnoah Prince Mandani, Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president Jerry Alejandrino, former Communications Officer Jay Pelayo, Tabun Barangay Captain Alma Mercado, Mining Barangay Captain Chris Cortez, Pampang Barangay Captain Lydon de Luna, Raco del Rosario, and the department heads of the City Government.
