16 Red Cross stations to serve in Dinagyang Festival

THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Iloilo Chapter will be deploying 150 volunteers to ensure the safety and well-being of those who will participate and witness the 51st Dinagyang Festival 2019 on January 25 to 27.

For the three-day festivities, PRC–Iloilo will be assigning the volunteers and staff to man 16 first aid stations along the parade route, five ambulances stationed in five judging areas, and one emergency medical unit with emergency room facility situated at the back of Bureau of Customs building.

PRC-Iloilo advised the public to take good care of themselves during the celebration.

“Do not forget to bring plenty of water, eat breakfast before leaving home, bring extra food, umbrella or cap and for those who have maintenance, do not forget to bring your medicine,” PRC Iloilo Chapter Service Representative Joji Esper Marmolejo said.

Marmolejo noted that last year most of the patients were tribe members who suffered from exhaustion and hunger. Some of them also had hypertensive crisis caused by the hot weather.

PRC-Iloilo was able to serve more than 200 patients during the three-day activities last year.

Minor cases that were attended to at the first aid stations included wounds, cramps, headache, fainting, dizziness, hyperventilation, sprain, abdominal pain, hypertension, chest pain, and allergy.

“A piece of advice for the public to rest from time to time during the long festivities of Dinagyang,” Marmolejo added. (PR)
