Female NPA rebel surrenders in Bukidnon

ANOTHER woman fighter of the New People's Army (NPA) laid down her arm and surrendered to the military in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon, Monday, January 21.

The military identified the former rebel as alias Jamaica, 27, president of Barrio Medical Group (BMG) of Platoon PBY, Sub-Regional Command 2 of North Central Regional Mindanao Command (NCMRC).

She brought along her Carbine caliber 30 rifle and ammunition when she yielded to the authorities.

Troops from the 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB) facilitated the surrender of Jamaica, who revealed the reasons why she abandoned the armed struggle.

Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Illana, 8IB commander, said Jamaica is only one of the hundred victims who listen to the propaganda issues exploited by the NPA.

"Fifty years passed and same tactics were used by this group to recruit in the community. This time, the people know their true intention, which forced them to surrender and go back to the folds of the law," Illana said.
