Misamis Oriental braces for 'Amang'

AT LEAST two towns in Misamis Oriental suspended classes on Monday, January 21, due to intermittent rains brought by Tropical Depression "Amang."

Classes in kindergarten, pre-school and elementary levels in the municipality of Jasaan were canceled, while classes in all levels in Manticao were suspended, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

PDRRM officer Fernando Dy Jr. said no untoward incident was recorded as of 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 21.

The province has experienced light to moderate rains since last weekend due to "Amang."

Dy said the bad weather may persist until the weather disturbance leaves the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano already activated the Emergency Operations Center and placed the province on "Blue Alert" status.

Emano also ordered the PDRRMO to work on three shifts and pre-position all rescue assets including relief goods.

"We were also directed to continue monitor areas especially the eastern towns," Dy said.
