ANGELES City Vice Mayor Brian Matthew Nepomuceno promised to prioritize livelihood and employment for the people of Angeles if he gets to sit as chief executive.

“I have always believed that poverty can only be solved if we lobby opportunities for our citizens. Rest assured that the city government in partnership with the corporate and private sector will always side on you as you build a brighter future for you and your family,” Nepomuceno said during Monday’s turnover of 20 NegoCarts (Kabuhayan Karts) with Clark Development Corporation (CDC).

Nepomuceno said he has always been an advocate of livelihood, skills training programs, and employment since when he was elected city councilor in 2010 and city vice mayor in 2016.

To lobby resources to Angeleños, Nepomuceno has been in constant coordination with the CDC through the Kabuhayan Mobile Cart project, a livelihood development program initiative in partnership with the City Government of Angeles.

Rommel Narciso, CDC Assistant Vice-President for External Affairs, said the program is part of the agency’s corporate social responsibility aiming at providing folks from nearby areas of Clark a better way of starting their livelihood through coordination with surrounding local government units.

Capability enhancement seminars were conducted prior to the distribution of NegoCarts.

“We hope that you [beneficiaries] will preserve, improve, and give importance to these we bestowed you which hopefully will help you sustain your daily needs. We also hope to encourage our kababayans not only to be employed but also to become entrepreneurs in their own ways,” Narciso said.

As counterpart, the City Government through the Office of the Vice-Mayor extended financial assistance amounting to P5,000 per beneficiary for the purchase of their goods. To assure sustainability, the local government unit will keep on locating the carts to monitor and assist the beneficiaries in propelling their businesses.

Rowena Junsay, 28, of Barangay Cutud said the NegoCar is a big help to them. “If not because of them, we’ll still be in the same hard situation of finding ways to sustain our basic necessities including the needs of my little children,” she said.

An 80-year old Aeta farmer from Sitio Target in Sapang Bato, Yolly David, desires to vend snacks such as barbeque, banana cue and buko juice with her new mobile cart.

Also, 19-year old Josephine Donato of Pulung Maragul was thankful for the NegoCart given to her for this will help support their family especially now that she is about to give birth to her second baby.

“May these small business enterprises lead you all to something bigger so you can all serve as inspiration to others who would also want to start their own. Do not be afraid to take risks for once you become successful, the payoff will be larger and will outweigh all the risks,” Nepomuceno said. (PR)
