A TOTAL of 10,000 establishments in Davao City were blocked by the Business Bureau for non-compliance of requirements from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

While the business permit renewal is ongoing until January 31, thousands of establishments will not be able to renew if they will not comply with the requirements designed for the safety of their employees and clients.

In a phone interview Monday, January 21, BFP Intelligence and Investigation section chief senior fire officer (SFO) 3 Ramil Gillado said they will have to issue a cease and desist order to those who will fail to comply with the Fire Safety Inspection (FSI) permit.

“Follow lang gyud sa atong mga requirements. Respetuhon nato ang balaod kay para man pud na proteksyon sa ilang businesses and sa mga kliyente na musulod (Just follow the requirements. Respect the law because it will be for the good of their businesses and for the protection of their clients),” Gillado said.

Gillado also said that majority of the violations of these establishments are lack of exit points, not standard emergency stairs design, not standard door design, among others.

“Kung ang imong establishment is naga-accommodate og daghang client, tapos ang imong purtahan dili swing-in, possible na kung naay mga emergency, ma-lock sila kay magtinulakay mana (If your establishment accommodates several clients and your door is not swing-in, they will possibly be locked inside during emergencies),” he said.

The list of these establishments was given by BFP to the Business Bureau last November 2018.

Meanwhile, Gillado said all the blacklisted establishments have been given the notice of compliance so they just have to ask the BFP to evaluate and inspect their establishments again for the FSI permit.
