POLICE Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas urged the family of the 19-year-old woman who allegedly died from ingesting a party drug to file a formal complaint.

Sinas said the complaint will be their basis for calling in the organizers of the Plus63 concert, an annual music and arts festival, where Ashley Avila Abad collapsed.

The concert was held at the grounds of the Cebu Business Park on January 19.

“We're waiting for a complaint so we can call the organizers. If there's no complaint, what will be our basis for calling them?” Sinas told reporters Tuesday, January 22.

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Royina Garma said they need the full cooperation of Abad's family so they can fully investigate the incident.

“For now, we're already conducting the investigation but we need the full cooperation of the family because we have to establish the background of the victim. We will check if there was a crime committed,” she said.

Initially, Garma said the doctor found a substance in the body of Abad that might have caused her death.

But Garma said they need to confirm if the substance is also a component of a party drug.

Garma clarified, though, that party drugs are not rampant in the city.

“There is no information that party drugs are rampant in the city but there is an information that they exist, especially in class A parties or events,” she said.

The party organizer spokesperson Perl Jacalan told SunStar on Monday, January 21, that Abad was immediately brought to Perpetual Succour Hospital minutes after she collapsed.

“We had medical teams and they were able to provide medical assistance. The doctor immediately made a call and she was brought to the hospital just minutes after she collapsed,” Jacalan said.

Abad died in the hospital around 3 p.m. Sunday, January 20. (SunStar Cebu)
