A BARANGAY in Toril District is seeking the help of the 18th Davao City Council to strictly impose the 10 p.m. curfew for minors and the noise ban which most of the residents still fail to observe.

During an interview with Davao City Councilor Jesus Melchor Quitain Jr. Tuesday, January 22, he said the captain of Barangay Catigan reported cases of such violations which prompted him to push for a barangay ordinance implementing curfew hours.

The barangay ordinance was entitled “An Ordinance Implementing Curfew Hours (10 p.m. to 4 a.m.) for Reasons of Public Safety, Comfort and Convenience of the Residents of Barangay Catigan and Providing Penalties for Violators Thereof”.

Quitain said that there is an existing city ordinance banning public disturbance and unattended minors during the night and the barangay may have forgotten about it.

“We prepared a committee report suggesting to the barangay that we already have an existing ordinance on that,” Quitain said, adding that the barangay received complaints on loud videoke and minors loitering during evenings.

Quitain also said that they want the barangay to implement the city ordinance instead of making a new barangay ordinance with the same provisions.

“Basig mao gyud ang reklamo sa mga tao didto and a barangay ordinance is their solution to address the problem (Maybe the complaints of the residents there prompted the creation of a barangay ordinance),” he said, adding that the barangay was advised to implement the city ordinance and tap law enforcers to control these incidents.

“It is just a matter of educating yourself, get a copy of the city ordinance and implement,” Quitain said.
