Elipe denies pitch to abolish Phividec

MISAMIS Oriental Provincial Board Member President Elipe on Tuesday, January 22, has belied reports that he is among those who wanted the Phividec Industrial Authority out of the province.

He said he only wants them to divulge the identity of Verde Soko which is responsible for the 6,500 tons of imported trash.

Elipe said there was a suggestion raised by his colleagues in the Provincial Board to abolish Phividec, but he said he never agreed to it.

"I never called for the abolition of Phividec. My point is let us isolate the issue on basura (garbage) and Phividec," Elipe said.

Elipe said it would be unfair for Phividec to be booted out of the province because of the entry of the hazardous wastes or because of their non-attendance during inquiries launched by the provincial board.

He said the only involvement of Phividec was letting Verde Soko to operate as its locator.

"They have to justify ngano ilang giaprubahan (why they gave approval)," Elipe said.

"Ang role sa Phividec is why Verde Soko was able to register and enter into the kind of business nga naa diay basura but the issue of basura coming inside the container ports daghan agencies involved ana like DENR and customs,"he added.

"Let the congress investigate. If they want to get Phividec out of Misamis Oriental there has to be bigger reasons," Elipe said.
