AN official of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental on Monday, January 21, said the town is gearing towards making its "Sakay-Sakay", their version of "Sinulog Festival", a primary tourist attraction.
Balingasag town Mayor Marietta Abogado said it has been observed that more foreign and local tourists have never forgotten to visit the annual "Sakay-Sakay" in celebration of the Feast of Sto. Niño.
Abogado said "Sakay-Sakay" is a form of devotion to Sto. Nino for the grace and abundance it showered to the people of Balingasag.
"Tinuig kini nga panaad kung asa ilibot namo ang Sto. Nino gikan sa simbahan paingon sa kadagatan ug magsadya ang katawhan isip pasalamat sa tanang grasya nga ilang nadawat," Abogado said.
The town held the "Sakay-Sakay 2019" last Monday, to culminate the week-long fiesta activities of the municipality.
Also, the celebration was completed through their own "Diyandi Festival" where each barangay participated in the dance contest.
"Gisundan ang Sakay-Sakay sa DIyandi Festival isip pasalamat gihapon sa mga grasya nga nadawat sa matag barangay. Magdala na sila diha og manok, lagutmon ug uban pa isip halad pasalamat ug pag-ampo," Abogado said.
The town mayor said she wants these festivities improved in the coming years as part of her plans for tourism.
Abogado said these revelries have also translated into economic development.
"Daghan mga turista gyud gaanhi diri kay naandan na gyud ug kini dunay additional revenue sa munisipyo kay malipay man mga gagmay nga mga businessmen," Abogado said.
She said the week-long celebration has paved the way for all sectors-youth, women, senior citizens, among others, to showcase what they've got through various presentations.
Abogado said the town only spent around P1.5 million as many other private sponsors supported the activities.
"Pasalamat pud ta sa kapolisan kay peaceful kaayo ang atong kapistahan ug walay kagubot nga nahitabo," Abogado said.
