FEWER public utility vehicles are expected to pick up commuters in Lapu-Lapu City on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
This is not because of a transport strike but of a call for drivers of public utility jeepneys, multicabs, vehicles-for-hire, taxis and tricycles to attend a seminar on traffic rules, road safety and others that day.
The seminar to be held at the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob will be part of a nationwide implementation of a training program of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
According to the LTFRB, a driver’s lack of theoretical knowledge of traffic rules and professional training contribute to road accidents.
The seminar will discuss LTFRB policies, good grooming, road safety, road rage and anger management, traffic signs and types of road pavements.
All public utility vehicle drivers are encouraged to attend the seminar that will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Malvin Arias, United Drivers Operators Transport Cooperative chairman, said the drivers will not pay for the seminar. Free snacks will given to 1,000 to 2,000 participants.
The Lapu-Lapu City Government will deploy five Kaohsiung buses to help transport passengers. The buses and trucks of barangays will also ply the streets.
City Traffic Management System chief Mario Napule said workers at the two export processing zones and Cebu Light Industrial Park can opt to take the SugboTour or MyBus or the ferries. (KAL)
