Police look at grudge over hot car as possible motive in killing

THE brother of Vanzant Navales, one of the three fatalities in the shootout in Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City, has surrendered to the police.

Abellana Police Station Chief Eduardo Sanchez said Vincent suffered a gunshot wound in the right thigh.

Vincent was reportedly shot by Michael Bacaltos, whose father Edwin and brother Shaun also died of gunshot wounds on Monday, Jan. 21.

Bacaltos was caught by the police after the incident. After the shootout, Vincent went to Naga City and surrendered to his cousin PO3 Rommel Patalinghug, a member of the Provincial Mobile Force Company.

He was then brought to a private hospital for treatment and extraction of the slug from his thigh. Vincent denied shooting Edwin and Shaun to death.

Sanchez, however, said they will include Vincent in the complaint as the latter’s group invaded Bacaltos’ house on Alcantara St. Vincent’s three companions have been identified and are being pursued.

Sanchez said his investigators are confirming the information that jealousy was not the cause of the rift between Bacaltos and Vanzant.

Vanzant reportedly harbored a grudge against Bacaltos after the latter sold him a stolen car. Bacaltos claimed that Vanzant got mad at him after the latter’s former girlfriend went with him to Bacolod City. (From AYB of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
