The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) – 7 reminds all Hazardous Waste generators to avail Treatment, Storage and Disposal (TSD) services from the facilities accredited by the Bureau.

EMB-7 Director, Engr. William Cuñado, said it is the responsibility of the generator to make sure that all wastes it has generated be it gaseous, liquid, solid, or hazardous in nature, will be treated and disposed efficiently and properly.

“The firm should make sure that they will acquire the services of an EMB-accredited TSD Facility or else, this Office will be constrained to implement the law against the violators,” said Cuñado.

Non-compliance to this mandate will cause the firm to be fined with a minimum amount of P10,000 to a maximum amount of P50,000 per violation to Republic Act 6969 or the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act of 1990.

As of now, EMB-7 acknowledges the capability of Aquilini Mactan Renewable Energy, Inc. (AMREI) situated at CLIP-SEZ Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu for those establishments generating hazardous wastes within Metro Cebu and nearby areas.

Director Cuñado said that AMREI is currently allowed to operate since they have completed the requirements from the Bureau.

Another two TSD Facilities are also being recommended to EMB Central Office for the approval of their renewal application for their TSD Registration Certificate.

These are Pollution Abatement Systems Specialist, Inc. (PASSI) in Dionisio Jakosalem Street, Cebu City, Cebu and Medclean Management Solutions, Inc.

(MMSI) in Mandaue City, Cebu.

PASSI and MMSI, however, have valid Transport Registration Certificate which means they are allowed to haul medical wastes and transport them to a TSD facility with valid TSD Registration Certificate upon entering into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with concerned parties.

Generator of hazardous wastes can also check other equally capable TSD Facilities with valid permits from other regions which can be checked thru emb.gov.ph. (PR)
