Comelec asks barangays to open daycare centers on Election Day

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City asked the city government and the barangays to open the daycare centers during the May 13 poll.

Election registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said Tuesday, January 22, she already submitted her request to the City Mayor’s Office, Department of Social Services and Development, and the Liga nga mga Barangay.

“We are asking the city and the barangays to open their daycare centers for mothers or parents who cannot leave their children at home to vote on May 13,” she said.

She added the daycare center is a big help for the parents not to bring their children in polling precincts.

Majarucon-Sia noted that in the previous elections, they also requested the city government and the barangays to open the daycare centers.

“We are hoping that by Election Day, the daycare centers are open to help our voters to take care of their children,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Comelec will release the final voters’ lists in Bacolod on February 12.

She said the barangays or candidates for May elections can secure a copy of the voters’ lists, but they should pay the corresponding fees.

This year, Bacolod has a total of 313,308 registered voters, which increased by 15,725 compared to the previous election with 297,583.

In November last year, Comelec has delisted 1,242 names from its voters' list in Bacolod.

Majarucon-Sia said for the May 13 elections, Bacolod has a total of 353 clustered precincts.

On February 12, Comelec will also post the certified lists of candidates for May 13 elections. (MAP)
