Duterte bares more Senate bets

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, January 23, divulged more names of senatorial hopefuls whom he would be supporting in the May 13, 2019 elections.

In a chance interview in Pasay City, the President said he would endorce the candidacy of reelectionist Senators Juan Edgardo Angara and Cynthia Villar; former senator and Taguig Representative Pia Cayetano; and Ilocos Norte Governor Maria Imelda Josefa "Imee" Marcos.

Angara is running under the ticket of Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino. On the other hand, Villar, Cayetano, and Marcos are seeking a Senate sea under the Nacionalista Party.

"Of course, they supported me and I have to support them also. That's the right thing to do," the President said on the sidelines of an event in Pasay Citt, when asked why he would support the said senatorial candidates.

"I will be supporting those who supported me during the last years. Utang na loob iyan eh (I owe them a debt of gratitude)," he added.

Previously, the President endorsed the senatorial bid of former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, former Philippine National Police chief Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, former presidential political adviser Francis Tolentino, and singer Freddie Aguilar.
