THREE soldiers were wounded in a firefight between government soldiers and remaining members of the Maute terror group in Sultan Dumalondong, Lanao del Sur, Thursday morning, January 24.

The two wounded were from the 55th Infantry Battalion and one from the 82nd Infantry Battalion, Joint Task Force Ranao said in a statement.

An undetermined number of casualties from the terror group were also observed, the JTFR statement added.

About 24 remnants of the Maute terror group engaged the soldiers in a firefight around 8:10 a.m. in a forested area of the town.

The firefight is ongoing as of 6:40 p.m.

Colonel Romeo Brawner, 103rd Infantry Brigade Commander said "casualties were immediately extricated from encounter site for medical treatment."

"We are calling on the public not to panic and not to evacuate because we have everything under control," Brawner added.

Maj. Gen. Roseller Murillo, 1st Infantry Division and JTF Zampelan Commander said the armed encounter is the result of its "relentless campaign against Maute ISIS remnants and Abu Dar group."

"Rest assured that best medical facilities and treatment will be provided to our wounded troops," he added. (PJ Orias)
