Sungduan: Almost complete

THE construction of the six-kilometer pipeline project that will provide a continuous supply of clean water to more than 1,700 residents of Barangay Kadayacan, Maria Aurora, Aurora is almost complete.

Members and officers of the Rotary Club of Metro Baguio and Rotary Club of Hadano Naka Japan personally went to the far-flung area to witness the ongoing construction of their project which is also supported by a global grant from the Rotary Foundation.

Using a private vehicle, they traveled the five-kilometer distance going to the foot of the mountain where the water source is, then hiked the steep trails before reaching their destination.

RCHN director Shingo Komaki said the project might be finished earlier than expected considering the fast work of the contractor and active participation of the community in the construction of the water pipeline.

A home mostly of the Kankanaey and Bago tribe, having a permanent system of water supply has been the dream of the barangay for more than three years now.

The project immediately started in December right after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding of the Rotary club of Metro Baguio District 3790 headed by President Elma As-il, Rotary Club of Hadano Naka Japan District 2780 lead by Isamu Takahashi, and Punong Barangay Florencio Walleng representing the community.

On January 28, RCHN is set to conduct a training on operation and maintenance of safe water supply to the local community with 500 target participants.

RCMB water project coordinator Rotarian Audrey Sungduan said the second training set on February 24 will be administered by RCMB. The day will also be the inauguration and turn over ceremony for the project which will be attended by 1,200 expected participants.

RCMB Past President/Past Dist. 3790 1C Asst. Gov Lyman Salvador, Past Presidents Oscar Matusalin and Feliza Ronquillo, and Incoming President Jerry Chan with Shingo’s wife Yahney Komaki also join in the inspection of the project.

This reliable and innovative endeavor will surely improve the quality of life of the community.
