Talisay tops operations vs. illegal drugs, gambling

THE Talisay City Police Station (TCPS) recorded the most number of operations against illegal drugs last year.

In one year, the anti-narcotics operatives conducted 350 drug busts that resulted in the arrest of 482 persons.

There were 22 drug personalities killed in Talisay City after they reportedly resisted the police.

TCPS is under the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).

For its part, CPPO seized P152.8 million worth of illegal drugs in its 2,349 operations from January to December 2018.

This was revealed by Chief Insp. Florendo Fajardo, the officer-in-charge of Planning and Operations Branch, during the Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting on Monday, Jan. 21, at the Capitol building in Cebu City.

Last September, 65 Talisay City police officers were relieved, except their chief, Supt. Marlu Conag. The relief was issued by Police Regional Office 7 Director Debold Sinas after receiving reports about some personnel’s involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Eight of the relieved officers admitted stealing some sachets of shabu seized during a drug bust, while another officer tested positive of drug use.

Fajardo reported that TCPS also had the most operations against illegal gambling.

The police arrested 196 persons in 95 operations and 80 cases were filed in courts.

Meanwhile, Toledo City Police Station ranked first in the operations against loose firearms with 168 that resulted in the arrests of 15 persons and the filing of 14 cases in courts.

Bantayan Police Station had the most operations against illegal fishing with 15 and it resulted in the arrest of 55 persons. Only 15 cases were brought to the courts.

Ten operations against illegal logging were conducted by Boljoon Police Station, but no one was caught. (KAL)
