Oro, MisOr pass Good Financial Housekeeping standards in 2018

BOTH the City Government of Cagayan de Oro and Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental have been recognized for their financial transparency and instituted public reporting of budget and expenditure.

In its website, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced Friday, January 25, that Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental made it to the official list of 2018 Good Financial Housekeeping.

DILG’s Bureau of Local Government Supervision (BLGS) issued the list of after its year-long assessment.

Out of the 98 local government units evaluated by BLGS in Northern Mindanao, only 74 local governments or 76 percent passed the assessment which included four provinces, eight cities, and 62 municipalities. Only Bukidnon province did not pass the assessment.

Alongside Cagayan de Oro City, the neighboring cities which also made it to the official list are as follows: Malaybalay City, Valencia City, Iligan City, Oroquieta City, Ozamiz City, El Salvador City, and Gingoog City.

Meanwhile, 15 municipalities of Bukidnon, three in Camiguin, 15 in Lanao del Norte, and seven municipalities in Misamis Occidental passed the Good Financial Housekeeping. Only Opol town in Misamis Oriental did not make it to the list, while all 22 municipalities passed the evaluation.

The Good Financial Housekeeping is a project of the DILG that recognizes local government units with good performance in internal financial housekeeping, particularly in the areas of local legislation, development planning, resource generation, allocation and utilization, customer service, human resource management and development, and valuing fundamental governance.

Making it to the list means a local government unit is one step closer to the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance award.
