Oro’s biggest football fest kicks off with record entries

THE 14th edition of Cagayan de Oro’s biggest football festival -- the Rosevale Cup -- kicks off on Saturday, January 26 at the school’s football pitch with record entries from all over Mindanao.

A total of 94 teams entered in eight age-group categories will compete for trophies and medals in the day-long tourney organized by the Rosevale School administration under executive director Emma Rose Quimpo, sports coordinator Dennis Bongocan, and coaches Mario Sumampong, Rowen Tagaylo and Kristine Neri.

Out of town teams include the Davao Hyenas Football Club (FC) and Southshield FC of Davao City, Ginggoog FC Bisons, and Bukidnon teams New Camp FC, M-Kids, Celestial FC, Del Monte School, Olles FC, and Iligan teams La Salle and Iligan Medical.

Local clubs like Higala FC, Abbas Orchard, Merry Child, Opol FC, PJFC, Goal FC, VAV FC, Xavier University, Bulua Strikers, Kauswagan FC, NUFC, and West City Central School complete the list of participating teams.

Lumbia Raptors FC composed of Typhoon Sendong survivors will be fielding in four teams with one team each in the Boys and Girls 19 Under category, Mixed 11 and Boys U16, thus marking the first for the club to send a huge entries.

Trophies and medals will be at stake in the tournament.

Games start at 7:30 a.m. with the opening ceremony set at 9 a.m.
