THE Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) approved the opening of Kennon Road for light vehicles going up to Baguio City starting February 14.

This was approved during the Task Force Kennon Road meeting. Residents will only be allowed to go up and down the stretch of Kennon Road.

Motorists may utilize Marcos Highway and Naguilian Road when going down from Baguio City.

Albert Mogol, CDRRMC chairman and Office of the Civil Defense – Cordillera regional director, said the initial agreement on the use of Kennon Road including the safety measures will be implemented during its opening.

“We will still have to prioritize the safety nets that we have earlier agreed upon in the council because safety for the residents, the motoring public, and the road workers is still our priority,” Mogol said.

Earlier, a decision to open Kennon Road was done through a Memorandum of Understanding by members of Task Force Kennon Road which gave the administration and regulation of access along Kennon Road within the jurisdiction and area of responsibility of various government agencies.

The MOU aimed to provide a framework of cooperation among member agencies which aim to provide a safe and efficient movement of road users along Kennon Road through a well-coordinated administration and regulation of access and incident management activities.
