THE north-bound lane of the tunnel along Cebu South Coastal Road will not be accessible to traffic starting 10 p.m. of February 1 until 5 a.m. of February 2 to pave the way for some repairs.

Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) operations chief Francisco Ouano said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Central Visayas requested for the closure to repair the jet plan blower of the tunnel.

“It will put the lives in danger if they will not do the repair early. They already sent us a letter and we allow it while the problem is not yet that big,” Ouano told reporters.

Although the repair will only take one night and will be completed before morning of February 2, Ouano said they will allow north-bound vehicles to take a left turn to Mambaling Access Road, in front of SM City Seaside.

“We already closed the left turn along that area while the repairs are ongoing. We will open the barricade to allow the vehicles to take left turn there instead of accessing the tunnel,” he said.

After 5 a.m. of February 2, Ouano said they will close again the left turn slot toward Mambaling Access Road.

Ouano said they are expecting that the closure will not create an impact on the traffic situation in the area considering that fewer vehicles are usually seen during the time of repair.

CCTO will still deploy additional three traffic enforcers in the area to guide motorists.
