Benguet town readies for Albubo Festival

BUGUIAS town in Benguet is preparing for its third Albubo Festival slated on March 4 to 10.

Instead of the name carrot festival, core values are being highlighted in the celebration known as “Albubo,” a Kankana-ey term which is known as the traditional “bayanihan” practice in the community, said Mayor Ruben Tinda-an.

The celebration of its annual town fiesta encompasses week-long celebration for all sectors in the municipality to participate.

This year, the town is once again to showcase its giant carrot cake.

Tinda-an cited several activities are lined up, including an agro–fair that will feature the different barangays, a farmers day which includes seminars for farmers, and several indigenous games.

Series of activities are also set for women, persons with disability, barangay health worker, nutrition scholars and civil society sectors and new added activity among religious group.

Other events include the Senior Citizens Day, Mr. and Ms. Buguias, Youth Day which highlights a ground demonstration which emphasizes the culture of the town, a Sunday fun run, bike for a cause for cancer patients, and barangay captain got talent.

The main program includes a civic parade followed by a ground demonstration of a dance drama of every barangay and the showcasing of giant cake sponsored by different baker’s association.

Also invited are different restaurants in the town to display demonstration and conduct vegetable cooking competition.

The municipality invited President Rodrigo Duterte for this year’s celebration with the theme: “Albubo: Danum ay manpeypey-as, basabas di Buguias ulnos di mankakabsat, entako iwatwat.”
