THE Davao City Civil Registrar's Office (CCRO) recorded a total of 41,475 child birth registrations in 2018.

CCRO Birth Division head Shirley Arendain during SM City's Kapehan media forum Monday, January 28, said that there was actually a decrease in child birth registrations from 44,000 in 2017.

Out of the total registered child birth this year, 32,790 were timely or have registered within the 30-day period. Those who were registered late totaled to 8,685.

Arendain said that the number of late registered child birth decreased this year which implied that the public is now aware on the importance of vital statistics registration.

"At least karon, aware na ang mga tao. Kanang pag-anak, gina-rehistro na gyud dayon labi na sa mga hospitals (At least now, we can see that people are more aware. Right after birth, they register the child, especially those who gave birth in hospitals)," she said, adding that the hospital is aware that they will be questioned also for late registration.

Arendain further said that timely registration is still free in the city, and those who register late will have to settle payment.

Meanwhile, CCRO Mobile Registration head Leslie Lagare yesterday, said that the program specially designed for the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the far-flung areas also contributed to the decrease of late registered child birth.

CCRO planned to train one representative of each tribe in the city to be in-charge of timely registration to lessen the number of late registration.
