TO ENSURE that no child abuse that will occur during the staging of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) 2019 Meet, its delegates and coaches were oriented on the child protection policy (CPP) in Davao City.

City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) Preschoolers and Children's Protection Youth Division head Gina Molon said that the orientation happened right after the arrival of the delegates from the different areas in the region as ordered by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

"Wala man gyu'y perfect nga event pero kung pwede lang mahuman gyud ni nga walay mga abuses mahitabo kasi we are meant to protect them (We understand that there's no perfect event but we want to make sure that there will be no abuses to happen)," Molon said Monday, January 28, in an interview with Sunstar Davao.

"We want to show other delegates that Davao City is a child-friendly city," she added.

During the monitoring, Molon said that they have not seen any hazardous areas for the children in terms of environment and accommodation.

Coaches have also been oriented about proper handling of children.

More than 50 social workers and trained personnel in child-handling were assigned in each billeting quarters of the delegates for daily monitoring.

The monitoring is in coordination with the Child Protection Committee of the Department of Education (DepEd) 11.

"The moment man gud na gidala na ang nga bataa diri, naa ta'y responsibility na ibalik nang mga bataa sa ilang mga ginikanan na the same (The moment these children arrive here, we have a responsibility to bring them back to their parents the same way they came here)," Molon said.

Molon, moreover, said that in the upcoming Palaro 2019 which will still be hosted by the city, more social workers and trained personnel for child handling will be needed as more delegates will be coming over.
