FOLLOWING the bombing in Jolo, Sulu on Sunday, January 27, the Public Safety and Command Center (PSSCC) encouraged churches in Davao City to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor security threats.

PSSCC chief Benito De Leon told reporters Monday, January 28, that CCTVs inside the churches will help ensure safety and security of churchgoers.

"Dito sa city mayroon tayong [CCTV] but hindi sa loob ng church mismo. I don't know whether the different churches are putting their respective CCTVs," De Leon said.

"Ang sa amin lang naman ay makita agad namin bago pa pumasok sa church or saan mang convergence areas," he added.

The two bombing explosions that happened in a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Sulu killed 20 people and wounded scores of others.

"Yung pangayayari sa Jolo, Sulu where we lost a number of people due to the bombing incident is very unfortunate. But the safety and security of the city, as well as other [security personnel] are assessing the situation na hindi dapat ito mangyayari sa atin," De Leon said.

"Ganun pa man, I assure the citizens of Davao City that the security and safety cluster is doing its best to protect its people," he added.

Meanwhile, Sunstar Davao tried to get the side of the Catholic Church from the San Pedro Cathedral but they refused to give an official statement yet.

However, the cathedral personnel, who refused to be named, assured that CCTV cameras inside the premises are in place and are being closely monitored.

The same personnel also said that uniformed men are also present during Mass to secure the area.
