Remolino earns bronze in elite field

CEBUANO triathlete Andrew Kim Remolino proved he can compete with the country’s top standard distance competitors after snaring third place in the men’s elite field of the 2019 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) in Subic Freeport on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The 18-year-old national team member Remolino completed the 1.5-kilometer swim, 40K bike and 10K run course in 2 hours, 2 minutes and 12 seconds to finish behind John Chicano and Filipino-Spanish triathlete Fer Casares.

The 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games silver medalist Chicano bagged the gold medal in this year’s series opener with a time of 1:58:48, while Casares took second place in 2:00:01.

The women’s side was dominated by Kim Kilgroe, who posted a time of 2:14:57. She was followed by Alexandra Ganzon in 2:25:56 and Jacqui Lamparero in 2:30:32. .

Talisay City’s Karen Manayon of Rider Omega Triathlon Team took a share of the spotlight with a dominant showing in the women’s junior elite race.

Manayon finished the 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run in 1:26:59 to win the title over Lauren Plaza and Erica Bulatao, who clocked 1:29:26 and 1:35:01, respectively.

Moira Frances Erediano of Lapu-Lapu City also made her presence felt with a second place finish in the women’s super sprint race. Erediano of Go For Gold Tri Team clocked 50:07, about 50 seconds behind champion Lady Samantha Corpuz. Cebu’s Mariella Estreba came in 50:55 to round out the top three. (RSC)
