Ashley Abad’s boyfriend not a suspect: CCPO chief

POLICE cannot consider the boyfriend of 19-year-old Ashley Abad, who reportedly died from a party drug overdose, a suspect even if he continues to evade police questioning.

This, even though Nel Spencer Tiu was present when Abad collapsed during a show at the Cebu Business Park last Jan. 19, and especially since no charges had been filed against him for his girlfriend’s death, said Senior Supt. Royina Garma, Cebu City Police Office director.

Mabolo Police Station Chief Dindo Alaras had said Tiu’s parents wouldn’t allow their son to cooperate with the investigation, as there was no court order compelling them to answer questions from the police. Tiu’s parents also wanted to consult their lawyers first.

But Garma said they just wanted to know from those who were at the party who gave the drugs to Abad.

“We are also investigating whether or not she (Abad) was forced to ingest the drug without her consent or was there consent when she took it,” Garma said.

She said they were waiting for the results of the autopsy on Abad, which was conducted on Saturday, Jan. 26, so they could confirm that her death resulted from illegal substance ingestion.

They would also secure testimony from the doctor who treated Abad when she was rushed to the Perpetual Succour Hospital after she collapsed, Garma added.

Abad was buried at the Angelicum Garden in Mandaue City on Sunday, Jan. 27. (From AYB of SuperBalita Cebu, JKV)
