Comelec identifies 92 common poster areas in Bacolod

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City identified at least 92 common poster areas in the 61 barangays in Bacolod for the May 13 elections.

City election-registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said on Monday, January 28, that most of the identified common poster areas are highway vacant lot, covered court, gymnasium, and near the barangay hall.

She said in big barangays, there were two or three identified common poster areas while the public plaza is not identified as designated poster area.

“For the national position, the candidates can display their tarpaulins starting on February 12 while the local candidates will be on March 29 in the identified common poster areas only,” she added.

Majarucon-Sia noted the candidates should follow the campaign rules to avoid posting tarpaulins on trees, electrical posts, waiting shed, sidewalk, traffic signs, bridges, barangay hall, public shrine, airports, seaports, public utility vehicles, and patrol cars.

“Aside from the identified common poster areas, they can also post campaign materials in private property as long as they have the consent of the lot owner and its materials should not exceed two feet by three feet,” Majarucon-Sia said.

She said the candidates should be mindful of the start of the campaign period and remove all their oversize tarpaulins, otherwise, they will be violating the campaign rules.

The Comelec earlier reminded the candidates, especially the national candidates’ coordinators, to remove their oversize tarpaulins to avoid violations on the start of the campaign period.

Majarucon-Sia disclosed that they are monitoring the violators and they will submit a report to the Comelec Law Department.

Meanwhile, Majarucon-Sia along with other Comelec officers in Negros Occidental on Monday attended a one-week training in Manila for the May 13 elections.

After their training, Majarucon-Sia will also hold training for the poll workers in Bacolod. (MAP)
