P1.1-B new buildings erected in Cordillera

SOME 281 new building constructions valued at P1.1 billion were put up in the Cordillera Administration Region (CAR) during the second quarter of 2018.

According to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Cordillera, this covers 108,960 square meters and reflects a decrease of 11.1 percent from 316 buildings projects in the same quarter in 2017.

The PSA added the Cordillera region contributed 0.7 percent of the total private construction in the country, a decrease of 20 percent share of construction projects in the second quarter of 2018.

According to PSA, 147 buildings of the 281 were constructed in Baguio City and Benguet province while Apayao recorded 52 new building constructions.

PSA added three in four buildings are residential which comprises 74.7 percent of the region’s construction projects in the second quarter of 2018. This includes 210 houses that cost P625 million.

Non-residential constructions include commercial, industrial, institutional and agricultural buildings among others.

PSA added Apayao’s building construction for non-residential has tripled from seven during the second quarter of 2017 to 19 recorded in the same period last year which costs P12 million.

Benguet logged a 22 percent decrease from the 23 recorded constructions down to 18 at P377 million while Kalinga and Abra posted five non-residential buildings with a combined value of P51 million followed by Mountain Province and Ifugao with the least number of approved constructions.

In every approved commercial buildings, two in four are stores which comprised of 51.9 percent of the total construction last year. Most of these are built in Abra with eight, Benguet with three and Ifugao with two.

More schools were built in Apayao with 13 while new churches were built in Benguet and Kalinga.
