Angel Locsin responds to body shaming bashers

THE 33-year-old Kapamilya actress, Angel Locsin, responded to bashers criticizing her “weight gain.”

“Kung iisipin mo, parang maaawa ka na lang sa tao kasi anong klaseng person ka para magawa mo yun? Perfect? Perfect ka? Sobrang perfect mo?” said Locsin to TV host Boy Abunda on the ABS-CBN late-night talk show, Tonight With Boy Abunda, last Monday, January 28.

She added that she could not comprehend as to how someone could go and ruin someone else’s life. “So itong taong ‘to, comfortable siya na ginagawa niya 'yan, parang ayoko mag-deal sa mga ganung klaseng mga tao. Kasi ang sad, ang sad ng life niya.”

Locsin told Abunda she will do her best not to get affected on the negative comments emerging from social media and that what is important is she is comfortable with her own body.

She explained her weight gain was due to disc bulge, a common spine injury sustained to a person's spine's intervertebral disc.

According to physioworks.com.au, this injury happens when a disc between vertebrae is moved or has slipped from its normal positioning which results to outward swelling of the fluid material throughout the weakest point of the shell of the disc.

Patients may experience little to no pain during the early stage of the injury, which can also be difficult to detect. However, for Locsin's case, she experiences severe pain when her body exerts strenuous physical activity such as simply exercising.

She assured her condition may improve but is afraid that her movements may be limited for the rest of her life.

In spite of this, Locsin has accepted her health condition so she could move on to other important things in her life. (Von Daniel R. Plasencia, USC Intern)
