Suspect in Jolo bombing killed, 2 others elude arrest

ONE was killed while two others including the alleged suspect in the Jolo bombing over the weekend escaped in a hot pursuit operation conducted by the police on Tuesday evening, January 29.

In a report from the Police Regional Office Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, joint personnel of Patikul Municipal Police Station, 52nd special action company, and regional mobile force battalion 14 conducted a hot pursuit operation against the alleged suspects in the Jolo cathedral bombing in Kalimayal village Barangay Latih in Patikul Sulu at 6:30 p.m.

Police said Ommal Yusop, 62, died during the operation while alias Kamah and another unidentified male person eluded arrest.

The report said as police arrived in their supposed hide-out, Yuson drew his firearm and shot the government forces which prompted them to return fire and resulted to his death.

Recovered from the scene were a caliber 45 pistol, one empty shell of caliber 45, five live ammunition of the said caliber firearm, and one magazine.

Kamah, a brother of slain Abu Sayyaf bombmaker Surakah Ingog, was among the three suspects in the Jolo twin bombing that killed 21 persons and wounded 111.

He was seen through a closed-circuit television camera while allegedly in the act of detonating the improvised explosive device planted in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel cathedral. (SunStar Philippines)
