Chua wins 20th BTA Sinulog Cup

VISITING bowler Kenneth Chua of Tenpin Bowlers Association of Makati (TBAM-Prima) ruled the 20th Bowling Tenpin Association (BTA-Cebu) Sinulog National Open at the Gaisano Bowlingplex in Banilad, Cebu City.

The top-seeded Chua of Metro Manila sneaked past Cebu’s Clarence Tiu, 173-159, in the championship shoot-out to win the Mixed Open Masters title and the P70,000 cash purse.

Chua earned an outright finals berth after topping the 10-game qualifying round with a total score of 2,120 from scores of 213, 267, 181, 172, 218, 227, 226, 233, 194 and 189.

Tiu, on the other hand, earned his ticket to the championship game after scoring 225 in the semis, beating Arthur Tapaya, Marc Matias and Rachelle Leon, who scored 171, 166, and 168, respectively. Tiu finished third in the qualifying with 1,902.

Tiu took second place and won P35,000, while the third to fifth placers received P17,500, P9,000 and P5,000.

On the other hand, national youth bowler Merwin Tan, also from TBAM-Prima topped the Youth Masters division after scoring 1,630 in the eight-game series. He bagged the P20,000 cash prize.

The 19-year-old Tan, who was part of the country’s team that won bronze medal in the 2018 World Bowling Youth Championship, flashed scores of 216, 199, 210 and 221, 191, 185, 207 and 201 to win in Cebu.

Tan beat Kenneth Agujo STAI-Prima and Cebu’s Maeng Villoria of BTA-Prima, who scored 1,584 and 1,508. (RSC)
