Talisay goes unbeaten

TALISAY City sits at the top of the Samsam Gullas Cup 3.0 Legacy Cup following back-to-back wins last weekend, Jan. 26 and 27.

Talisay City defeated Minglanilla, 75-61, in Carcar last Sunday, and Naga, 71-55, on Saturday at home.

Jay Deiparine had a strong performance against Minglanilla with 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals. John Elmer Villabrille had a double-double with 14 markers and 11 boards along with three steals and three blocks. Ronan Briones and Keaton Clyde Taburnal were also in double figures with 16 and 15, respectively.

Ryzel Gilbuena had 19 points, while Acer Rom Michael Go chipped in 11 in a losing effort by last year’s runner-up Minglanilla.

On the other hand, Villabrille had a double-double performance the previous day against Naga with 14 points and 14 boards along with three steals. Deiparine was Talisay City’s leading scorer with 18, while Christian Carl Sullano added 10.

Jay Yancy Mojado led Naga with 18 markers, while Cloefas Robinson contributed 10.

In other games last Saturday, Carcar defeated Minglanilla, 81-74, while defending champion San Fernando outclassed Sibonga, 77-65.

San Fernando picked up another victory the following day with a 71-61 win over Naga, while San Fernando also won back-to-back games with a 71-61 victory over Naga.

Talisay City is at the top with an immaculate 5-0 slate, followed by Carcar with 4-1 at second place. Minglanilla is third with 3-2, San Fernando is fourth with 2-3, Sibonga is fifth with 1-4 and Naga is at the bottom with 0-5. (EKA)
