THE Police Regional Office (PRO)- Western Visayas warned the public to “stop spreading fake news” on social media, text messages, or any other media platforms.
This, after the regional headquarters received a report about the alleged presence of Islamic State in Iraq and Syria who are planning to launch an attack in the city.
A bomb threat in a shopping mall also circulated recently.
The messages spreading around are all fake news, the regional headquarters in a press release said.
Those who have received and will receive these messages should stop spreading this false information, it said.
“Do not be a part of spreading fake news and unverified information to prevent panic and sowing fear to other members of the community,” the PRO- Western Visayas said.
“Instead of spreading fake news, help us by reporting suspicious personalities, strangers, unscrupulous individuals in your communities,” it said.
The PRO-Western Visayas assured the public that police are on the top of the situation and are imposing measures to monitor and prevent terroristic activities in the region.
On January 27, 21 people died and more than 100 persons were injured in a twin bombing in Jolo, Sulu.
It was followed by another attack in North Cotabato and Zamboanga City. GYM
