4 dead in truck, bus collision on SCTEX

MANILA (Updated) -- Four people were confirmed dead, while several others were injured in a collision of a tourist bus and truck on Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) in the area of Concepcion, Tarlac Thursday dawn, January 31.

Police said tourist guide Ruel Castillo, Ricardo Aledia, Isidro Brabante, and Laila Abita, all residents of Naic, Cavite, were declared dead at the Concepcion District Hospital in Tarlac.

The other injured passengers are being treated at the Medical City in Clark, Pampanga; AUF Hospital in Angeles City; Mabalacat District Hospital; Tiglao Hospital; Concepcion District Hospital; Ospital Ning Capas; Capas District Hospital; and Tarlac Provincial Hospital.

The victims were all passengers of the bus.

Police said the collision, involving a tourist bus driven by Michael Sangcajo, 37, and a truck driven by Antonio Bulante, happened around 5 a.m. on SCTEX road in Barangay Santiago, Concepcion, Tarlac.

Based on initial investigation, the bus bumped the rear portion of the truck.

Earlier, Robin Ignacio, traffic manager and spokesperson of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-SCTEX, said the bus was carrying government employees from Naic, Cavite bound for Baguio.
