FOR the Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, the date is determined by the cycle of the moon. The dates are usually between Jan. 21 and Feb. 19.

February 14 is the Chinese New Year determined by the lunar calendar for this year. Each year is named from one of the 12 animal signs based on Chinese astrology. This year is the year of the tiger.

According to Wayang Times.com, “Drama, intensity, change and travel will be the keywords for 2010.

Unfortunately, world conflicts and disasters tend to feature during Tiger years also, so it won’t be a dull 12 months for anyone. Also it has been predicted that new inventions and incredible technological advances have a good chance of occurring.”

The other symbolic animals in the Chinese astrology are the rat, ox, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig.

According to Antonette Cristobal, feng shui consultant of Sheng Chi, the forecast for the various animal signs are based on the flying stars.

“Every year,” explained Cristobal, “the stars will rotate into different astrological forms that are represented by the 12 animal signs.”

Feng shui is not new to some of us especially for those who desire luck. In the Chinese dictionary, “feng” means wind and “shui” means water pertaining to the belief that the two powerful sources of nature affect our well being. But basically, feng shui refers to the positioning of objects in a room, office, grave so as to have a good flow of energy based on the yin and yang belief of the Chinese.

Feng shui is a not a simple way of predicting the fortunes of these animal signs, said Cristobal. It is also a way to teach people how to amplify or avoid 3 these fortunes by the proper placement of furniture and things in the house.
