THE “Broadway Diva” Lea Salonga was infuriated after seeing a slide-like persons with disability (PWD) ramp from a friend’s Facebook post.

“What sort of devilry is this?!” she said.

The post was then shared by the Broadway diva on her Facebook account.

“No, no, a thousand times, no. Whoever was in charge of that ramp needs to be taken out and shot,” said Salonga.

In the comment section of her post, she said that rats and cockroaches are the only ones likely to use the said ramp.

The ramp's design was too steep that no person on a wheelchair or a cane may be able to use it, she added.

The ramp should have been PWD-friendly or at least usable for said persons.

This is according to Batas Pambansa (BP) 344, an act to enhance the mobility of disabled persons by requiring certain buildings, institutions, establishments, and public utilities to install facilities and other devices.

Section 1 of BP 344 states that educational institutions, airports, sports and recreation centers and complexes, shopping centers or establishments, public parking places, work-places, public utilities shall provide architectural facilities or structural features for disabled persons in order to promote the rights of the PWDs to participant fully in the social life and the development of the societies in which they live in.

Any person violating any provision of this act will be imprisoned for no less than one month but not more than one year or a fine of P2,000 to P5,000 or both as stated in Section 4 of the said Act. (Von Daniel R. Plasencia, USC Intern)
