FATHER and son champion drivers Carlos and Iñigo Anton kicked the year off with a flying start by topping the Philippine Autocross 1st round held during the Navotas Festival.
The Yokohama Championship drivers on board their Mark Young-Castrol-Mohspeed racing machines took home the best time of the day and the open championship crown.
Carlos Anton posted the day’s quickest time and topped the Experience Modified C, All Honda Class and FWD class while the 14–year–old racing phenom Iñigo, took the best time in the open class to notch up his first overall win in that championship.
“It’s fantastic that the first round went to us with Iñigo. Now that Iñigo is no longer a novice after sweeping the championship last year, he has matured and showed that he can already match all the veterans including me,” said proud father Carlos.
The results however did not reveal the whole story of the race as the Anton’s battled with car troubles all day on route to victory in the end.
Iñigo’s Honda EF suffered a broken fan belt first then the fuel pump expired, and as he headed for the finish line during his first run, the drive shaft snapped ending his first heats.
The grade 9 Achievers Academy student was forced to shift race cars and use the Honda CRX of his father that he is not that familiar with.
The young Anton did the best he could to adjust and was able to still post the fastest time of the day for the open class.
The Antons are backed by Yokohama, Mark Young Racing, Mohspeed, NO FEAR Apparel, MPTurbo, Castrol, JSD Autosport, Special Stage, Carporn racing, Parts Pro PH, Kilton and kart Plaza. (Roderick Osis)
