NPDC hosts National Arts Month 2019 Sayaw Pinoy

THE National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), led by its executive director, Penelope Belmonte, spearheads the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) National Arts Month (NAM) 2019 Sayaw Pinoy festive kick off launch at the Open Air Auditorium, Rizal Park on February 3. 2019.

The Sayaw Pinoy 2019 launch will organize free art workshops: baybayin writing, egg painting, kite making, baybayin henna tattoo, silk screen printing, live portrait sketching, and face painting. And the night’s highlight, the dance concert will form a collaboration among different dance troupes and companies both professional and upcoming groups all over the country.

There will also be Concert at the Park to take place at the Open Air Auditorium, Rizal Park on every Sundays of February (10, 17, 24) with performances from different dance groups.

Apart from the Concert at the Park, Sayaw Pinoy will also have a month-long traveling dance concert series in different parts of the country.

The dance tour brings together different dance forms such as classical ballet, folk dance, contemporary and modern dance as the country’s top dance companies perform with the local dance troupes of host cities and municipalities. Showcasing the colorful tradition of dances and movements in the country and reaching out to the grassroots to discover new talents as well as connect to more Filipino dance artists.

The National Committee on Dance, headed by Shirley Halili-Cruz, has been undertaking the Sayaw Pinoy since 2009, through the years, the committee has nurtured young and upcoming dance groups which participated in different events in the country and overseas.

The annual celebration of National Arts Month started with the signing of Presidential Proclamation 683, in 1991, declaring February as National Arts Month. Over the years, NCCA, as well as private and government agencies, has been organizing events and activities to highlight the artistic brilliance of the Filipinos.

The NPDC, country’s leading agency that provides fully-developed and well-maintained parks for the Filipinos has the authority to oversee, develop, administer, and maintain national parks specifically the Rizal Park or Luneta, Paco Park, the Pook ni Maria Makiling, and Burnham Park.
