Sungduan: Water system training

BEFORE even the water system for Barangay Kadayacan, Maria Aurora, Aurora will be completed, a training on how to operate and manage the project was conducted for them.

Spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Hadano Naka Japan and the Rotary Club of Metro Baguio, the activity is seen as very essential as it empowers the residents to maintain and manage their own water supply system.

Speaking to the residents, RC Hadano Naka Director Shingo Komaki emphasized on the need to establish an efficient operation and maintenance of the water system which include the construction of pipelines and focusing on community based participatory to ensure its sustainability and long lasting function.

For the residents who cannot afford to pay their monthly water consumption, a work will be given to guarantee the financial management of the system that will provide a continuous supply of clean water to more than 1,700 residents of the village.

Meanwhile, RCMB Past President Oscar Matusalin pointed out the need for regular water potability tests and initiatives on water conservation methods such as rain water collection or recycling.

The initial training course helped enhance the capacity of the barangay with the Kankanaey and Bago as the dominant tribe on water system operation and maintenance and likewise on sanitation system.

RCMB water project coordinator Rotarian Audrey Sungduan said another training is set on February 24 which is also the day of inauguration and turn over ceremony for the project to the barangay.

RCMB Past Presidents Lyman Salvador and Feliza Ronquillo and Incoming President Jerry Chan with Director Fuzakazu Naito of RC Hadano Naka who are actively involved with the project, also attended the activity.

The role of the barangay in sustaining and maintaining their own water system is very essential. Making them aware on the basics of water supply system including the importance of being involved in its operation and maintenance including the basics of sanitation and waste management will make the undertaking successful.
