Zamboanga mayor renews call for vigilance

MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has renewed her call for sobriety and vigilance following the grenade explosion at the mosque in the village of Talon-Talon on Tuesday killing two people and wounding three others.

Salazar has ordered the military and police authorities to conduct a thorough investigation on the incident as she allayed fears that the incident was a consequence of a tension between Muslims and Christians.

“We call on the people to remain sober but vigilant and let us not allow terrorists to divide the good relationship between Muslims and Christians because we remain united, practice tolerance and live together in peace,” Salazar stressed.

On Wednesday morning, she personally inspected security measures and details implemented in the border of Zamboanga City in the east coast to ascertain that everything is in place for the safety and security of the residents.

She has directed the security sector to not lower their guard in light of the challenges following the January 27 twin bomb explosions at the Jolo, Sulu Cathedral and the grenade blast at a mosque in Talon-Talon midnight Tuesday.

She reiterated her appeal to the public to cooperate and support the strict security measures being enforced and urged both Christians, Muslims, and Lumads to remain united and continue to work together for a common cause - peace and unity. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
